Korea and I
I wanted to go to Korea since 2000, when my family went without me and my brother. We both had exams, hence we missed out on our family trip.
My 2nd attempt to go to Seoul was blocked by Prince Brat in 2012
I was in my 3rd trimester when my brother- in- law got married in Seoul. It was a beautiful wedding, and I missed it because I wasn’t allowed to fly. Well, I could lie my way into the plane, but I don’t actually fancy getting stuck in a country and having to pay for a baby’s passport and ticket to come back. It was Autumn in September there, and apparently it was a beautiful day to get married. Grr…
Snip
Oh, do you know that pregnancy is NOT covered (usually) by travel insurance? It comes under pre-existing conditions, does not matter if you actually were aware that you are carrying a little person inside you. Hence, I lost part of my ticket cost, no reimbursement. So if you are travelling, probably make sure you have that covered if you HAVE been planning to start.
You see, I still want to go, but now with 2 brats it is not easy. From Australia, you do need to transit either in Hong Kong, Singapore or Malaysia. Plus it is not cheap when you multiply it by 4. Korea will always be on my list to go, most probably JeJu Island now, as my husband declared that Seoul is boring, and not really worth spending a lot of time in. But if you are going, try Busan or other more rural places.
Are You Going to South Korea?
Before some trigger happy fool starts a war, are you guys going to take in some nice scenery and eat some cheap seafood? Because if you are, here are some stuff that people usually buy as souvenir. You can still buy those cute hanbok (Korean traditional dresses) and magnets, but for someone special, here are some ideas.
I should know, I got heaps from my Korean sister- in- law.
Ginseng
For the guys who does not like beauty products. Korean Red Ginseng is has a super star status. This comes in ready- to- dissolve powder, packed in individual sachets. Probably a good idea to check if it is made in Korea, as some might come from China.
This is good stuff, because it gives you energy without caffeine. Ginseng is known to be an adaptogen, so that you can feel better without caffeine or sugar. Definitely a good gift for a busy person in your life.
Make Up
I got this from a friend, who is engaged to a Korean guy. She went to visit her future in-laws, and got me this lip tint. Review to come soon, perfect for younger girls who is looking to start make up. This tint is not really a lip- stick, but more protective. Of course, if you want it for yourself, I totally understand.
Laneige has this protective makeup base. It also has sunscreen, and can keep skin hydrated even when it is worn underneath make up. Best of all, you do not have to guess if your recipient likes it. It is colourless and can be used on its own, less problems figuring out the correct shade if you were to buy their famous BB Cream right?
Cool right? Buy it online here. if you are not going there anytime soon. Though, there are some lines of the product you may only find in the country, sort of a bonus if you visit the place of origin.
The Ultimate Splurge for Korea Trip
Say you want to buy something really cool for someone you love: this Sulwhasoo will definitely be in your list.
This Sulwhasoo eye cream costs a whooping AUD 250 rrp, as it contains their famous ginseng to reduce wrinkles and improve circulation. Sulwhasoo is a premium Korean skincare brand, the price tag does not deter a faithful following at all.
But of course, if you are looking for a less expensive brand, The Face Shop is a great one.
As you can see, you do not have to actually go to Korea to get your hands on these nice things. Although, this beats buying those keychains/ magnets for the ones you care about right? These items are not hard to find, according to my husband. He went without me to the wedding Q.Q

Too bad you had to miss the wedding and the chance to go. I guess your son is worth it 🙂 Lots of cool products there.
my son is worth it, though i still wished that I could go experience Korean wedding, y’ know.
$250.00 for one product, for that price it had better work miracles and make you breakfast in the morning. So sorry to hear that you weren’t able to go. Do you have anyone that might be able to take the kids for a week so you and the hubby can get away?
nah it will be a family trip now. Jeju Island is a great spot for families. That brand is heaps expensive for its ginseng =d but a lot of people say it’s worth it. Kind of the same as people paying for Lancome and stuff
Aw sorry you couldn’t go. At least now you have to look forward to go with the family.
now i have to drag them along =( would have been easier without kids
I would love to go, and if I ever do I will look these goodies up. 🙂 I can’t even imagine how many transfers there would be coming from the east coast of the US – or how long that would be. Probably two full days of traveling!
yeah, you would lose a day travelling from US, but you can fly to Japan or Hong Kong and transit from there. Korea is next door to them =D
a lot easier than flying to Australia, which is 22 hours from Hong Kong to Lax, and another 9 hours to AUstralia give or take — i think….
