Goblin – The Lonely and Great God – Korean Television Series

I blame my lack of posting on this series, after my friend recommended it. I watched all 16 episodes in the span of three days, that’s 16 hours of my life down the drain that I cannot get back. Having said that, this is better than Candy Crush! Currently I am in love with the lead character- the Goblin. If you are looking, another name for this series is Guardian- The Lonely and Great God. Whilst the two words are not interchangeable, someone probably decided to appeal to a more romantic audience and named it so. This is probably one of the very few series that I would strongly recommend.

Story

The story started with this

A brief history of the lead character about how he was cursed/ blessed into becoming what is known as a Dokkaebi. In Korean Folklore, dokkaebi is supernatural beings that can grant wishes or play tricks. With our poor Kim Shin, he’s destined to roam the earth until he finds his bride, who could see the sword stabbing his chest and remove it. When she removes the sword, he will be able to find peace. Half an episode later, we move onto …

Eye candy: the goblin. By the way, his real name is Gong Yoo (and he is damn famous in Asia). He also starred in a movie called Train to Busan, a zombie horror flick. But let’s concentrate on him in this series. The main things you should know

He’s 939 years old, and still single XD
He remembers everything as part of the curse
He has powers …

Why Watch It?

The main reason why I recommend it, is the story is complicated. Not only this series has two love stories, it also has a bromance. The scriptwriter is Kim Eun Sook, who is famous for other romance type series. If you are a guy, make sure your girlfriend/ wife does not watch this. A lot of relationships are destroyed because these actors are crazy good at acting, and the scriptwriter can write really REALLY good lines.

If you are a writer, or someone who loves sweet lines, this series has quite a bit. Not to mention the dreamy soundtrack that makes you swoon. On the plus side, you no longer have to wait, as this series is already more than a year old. You do not have to wait in agony like some of my friends did. I didn’t watch it then, because I was busy looking after a baby. While I cannot say much, I could tell you that it does have a happy ending.

Don’t know why it says Season 1, there is only 1 season =D
