When in Romania, You Hunt Prince Dracula
Following Stalking Jack the Ripper, Audrey Rose Wadsworth is back in Hunting Prince Dracula. Okay, I admit that it’s bad pun, but I can’t help it. Audrey and her Beau Thomas are going to a Medical school to study forensics, as her uncle Jonathan pulled strings to get her considered. It is good timing, a peace offering from her uncle to distract her from the pain of the previous incident.
The trip there was eventful, when you count a poor murdered man just outside their carriage. Their chaperone is mostly drunk, allowing them to sneak in some interesting conversation and more. Have to say that the start of the book is already promising a lot!
Story
It is hard to escape the myth of Prince Dracula when you are in Romania. The school has to the one of the castles that belonged to Vlad the Impaler, soon there are more dead people turning up. The teachers have mixed feelings about the myth and the murders, as students of forensics, Audrey and Thomas has had the privilege to be up close.
Right from the begining, Thomas appears to be wanting to tell Audrey something… important I hope. But time and time again he gets cut off. They make new friends and enemies, soon trying to find the killer before someone becomes food for Dracula again.
Verdict
Hunting Prince Dracula is quite well done, tying in with bits of real history. I am never sick of the myth, however this one is quite new. While Audrey Rose and Thomas grows closer, I am anticipating more from their adventures together. Sometimes I forget that they are not in modern times, even with the ever drunk chaperone of theirs.
I had fun following the chase, but the ending is a little sad ( not because the case wasn’t solved, mind you) but more murder awaits!
