Someone left something behind in the Keeper of Lost Things…

I got this book from Netgalley, the cover and synopsis intrigued me. I got the Australian version, but the cover looks the same to me at the moment. It is quite pretty and unassuming, it makes you guess what is inside the book. At first glance, this seems like a boring book.

The story alternates between a few characters, mainly Anthony, Laura and Eunice. Each person has a painful past, and their background story affects their actions and decisions in the book. Anthony’s need to atone for his loss made him the Keeper of Lost Things, now he is trying to pass the mantle onto his assistant Laura.

Laura herself is also lost, for a few reasons. The relationship between the two seems like Father and Daughter more than boss and assistant, despite their mannerisms. I think that Anthony secretly wishes that she is his kid, that is less creepy. I like Laura a lot, she has backbone and a kind heart. The story progresses to Eunice, whose story starts off at a weird time. Lastly, Bomber who is an angry ghost who is haunting the book.

So the narrative splits between people, I was confused because I can be slow. It took me a few chapters, but eventually I got into it. The writing can be awfully long, but it is the style of the author. The Keeper of Lost Things  is not too fast paced, things get slow sometimes. This is more like a marathon read, you take your time and smell roses.

Verdict

Heartwarming, happy ending and somewhat touching. This book is not the easiest, I took about a week to fully enjoy it. The story is unique, and serves as a reminder that somethings are not mere objects. I liked The Keeper of Lost Things, and I hope that you like it too.
